The scrap gold value calculator is a tool created by the team at the Australian Coin Collecting Blog. The authors have written several hundred coin collecting related blog entries and during this time we also created some silver and gold coin bullion value calculators. We'd always thought it would be handy to have scrap silver and gold calculators that could be used to calculate the value of bullion not in coin form and this site grew out of that idea.
We primarily used javascript and the nifty Prototype javascript library for this calculator. The gold price and exchange rates are fetched hourly from the good folk at Kitco by a PHP script on a Linux server in the USA. There's also a smattering of PHP used in the calculator script.
